What happens when patients join the telemed visit before their scheduled time?
Last updated: October 9, 2026
Patients are often eager to get started and may try to join their Video Telemed visit well before their appointment time.
To help set expectations, patients who try to join more than 15 minutes early should see a message asking them to come back closer to their scheduled time.
If a patient does get into the call early, they’ll wait in the virtual waiting room. You don’t need to join early. A provider can claim the visit and start the call when they’re ready, and the patient can’t begin the consult until the provider joins.
Tips for your team
Patients who join early appear in the virtual waiting room, so staff can see who has arrived.
If a patient is waiting, a short message through Solv Messaging (a quick reply works well) can let them know when to expect the provider.
If paperwork or payment is required for your location, the patient will need to complete those steps (shown as PPW and CC in the waiting room) before they can join the call.
